The North Atlantic Regional Experiment
NARE97-Cape Pine

The North Atlantic Regional Experiment is a study designed to develop a better understanding of the processes that control the export of pollutants to the atmosphere over the North Atlantic Ocean from the surrounding continents. Intensive measurements are being made in the region of Newfoundland, including a series of flights by the NOAA WP-3 aircraft based in St. John's, Newfoundland, and continuous measurements at a surface site at Cape Pine, Newfoundland. The WP-3 flew over the Cape Pine site on each flight and the aircraft measurements will be compared to surface measurements of the same compounds. (A list of the overflight dates and times is provided here.)

The P-3 flights are conducted by the NOAA Aeronomy Laboratory. The Cape Pine surface site was set up by Michigan Tech with funding from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA/OGP) and the National Science Foundation.
A summary of the participants and measurements made at the site is provided here.

NARE 1997 Data Workshop Boulder, Colorado, August 10-13, 1998.
